Beau in 6 Page Spread/Interview in Glamoholic

Beau Mirchoff has been featured in a six page spread in Glamoholic.Com Magazine’s October 2011 issue. Several new photos were taken of Beau for the production in addition to Bashar Zidane’s thorough interview:

What was your first impression after reading the script of “Awkward”?

My first impression was very positive. I thought the script was better than most I had read - I immediately was laughing, I cared for the characters! I think there’s so many relatable characters and even in the pilot. So, I thought it had all the elements to make a great show.

Are you happy with the audience reactions on the show?

Oh, definitely, definitely. I think all the reactions have been very positive. And, people seem to really enjoy it. You know, I’ve had little girls say they love it and up to like, you know girls in their forties - or women in their forties. So it’s, very cool there hasn’t been a lot of negative!

How similar is “Matty” to your real personality?

We are similar in many ways. I think maybe Matty is a little more self-conscious. Maybe he’s a little more sensitive than me at times. Not saying that I’m not sensitive, but also, I was albe to draw form real life experiences. You know, in high school, when you’re going through relationships and your struggles and you’re growing. I think I went through that and I think Matty is synonymous with that, too.

How important is love at high school?

Hmmm, how important is love at high school?! I think it’s… it depends. I mean, most likely, it’s not going to last. But, if you can find the right person than good for you! I think it’s important to be in relationships and long-term relationships. I think it helps you grow. I think you learn a lot about yourself - what not to do in relationships. I know my relationship now is lot better off if I had not tired relationships…

What are the most special memories you have from high school?

I remember all my football games, and I remember I had a really great media arts class. Where we would make our own videos, that was a lot of fun… I had a lot of great memories from high school a lot of friends and a lot of good times, got into a little bit of trouble in high school. But all in all, it was a lot of fun.

A lot of guys out there are not “the most popular” at high school, how do you think they should deal with being categorized by others?

I think when you’re young you take everything a little more personally and it’s kind of a big deal. It turns everything into a dire situation. But, you know, don’t worry about what cliques you’re in or whatever. I mean, high school ends and you are your own person. You have your own personality and your own flaws and strengths. So, don’t let someone’s opinion dicate who you are - that doesn’t matter.

Are you excited for the second season of Awkward? And what can you tell us about what’s coming next on the show?

Yes, I am extremely excited. I don’t know exactly what is going on. I haven’t been in the writer’s room. So, I don’t know. I would like to maybe see the story lines go home with each of the character’s a little more. Like maybe see into Matty’s home life. Also, the other characters’ home life to see how they tick and what makes them them! I think that would be very interesting…

What’s the difference between working on a famous show like “Desperate Housewives” and a new show like “Awkward” where you have a big part of making success as one of the main characters?

I haven’t really thought about hat too much, to be honest. I think the way TV shows are made, Awkward and Desperate Housewives, they’re very similar. Obviously, Desperate Housewives’ pockets are a little bigger so you’re able to do more. But, I never felt that Awkward was hindered by that - I think we were able to do everything we wanted to. Maybe we were pressed for time on occasion but we always made it work. It’s cool to have the show proceed well, it’s positive, it’s gratifying, it’s a good feeling - it’s like the people like the show. Which is better than people hating the show - it’s very rewarding.

When was the first time that you knew you wanted to be an actor?

I started acting when I was very young. My Mom started me into acting, singing and dancing class. I didn’t like the dancing class, I was kind of embarrassed by it and I wasn’t a good singer so I was kind of shy and my friends made fun of me. So, I stopped doing that and then concentrated more on sports. When I was about thirteen years old I got into it again and started with the acting classes and that’s when I really fell in love with it. So, I’d say thirteen years old and started auditioning. I twas about two years until I went to commercial. It was tough times when I was a teenager!

Was it difficult to decide to move to LA and start fulfilling your dreams?

You know I was planning on moving about a year earlier than I had moved. I wasn’t quite ready I still was very close with a lot of my friends from high school and we were still kind of still just figuring everything out. I was still able to act out of Vancouver so it wasn’t absolutely necessary at that time. You know and then I had a little bit of life experience. You know, I lived on my own with a friend and worked in a pub. After about a year of that though I was read to change and wanted to act full time and get into acting classes. Do that whole thing and just engulf myself in acting one hundred percent, so that’s what I decided to do.

What is your biggest dream as an actor?

My biggest dream as an actor is that I just want to be able to work steadily and not have to worry about money all the time. That would be the best - to just be able to pick roles and just do movie after movie. You know, to be able to pick a role and to have scripts give to me and me decide what I want to do. That’s my goal, that’s my dream. I think that would be very cool!

Your next movie will be “The Secret Lives of Dorks”, what can you tell us about it?

“The Secret Lives of Dorks” is a comedy. It’s kind of similar to Awkward in a way.Kind of an unpopular kid, the dork in high school, and it follows around his life and his love for this popular girl. I’m kind of the tormentor of the dork so, I”m kind of a bully. But, in the end I turn out to be the nice guy and I help the dork find his true love. It’s cool in James Belushi, Jennifer Tilly, and Gaelan Connell. Yeah, it should be out this year! So I’m excited, it’s very funny!

Will you focus on making more movies in the future than TV shows?

I have no idea; I would like to do movies. I think movies are fun but I also find TV challenging in itself, too. There’s good and bad and great and bad in both. I think they’re both fun - as long as I’m able to work, I’m happy!

Is there any actors/directors that you wish to work with?

Yeah! Bean Foster would e a good guy to work with! Christoper Nolan is a pretty good director. Oh, who else, there are so many people. I think it would be amazing to do a movie with like Philip Seymour Hoffman, Meryl Streep, Gary Oldman or any of those people. There are so many talented people in this world. I would love to have a chance to work with any of those people.

Away from acting, how do you describe your personality?

I think I’m outgoing and fun. I’m also driven and hard working. I don’t know, I like to do activities and be outdoors and do stuff. Get out of the house and I like movies and seeing theater.

If you were not an actor what would you be?

I’d probably be a student at this point. Doing what? I don’t know. I wanted to get into medicine. My dad is a podiatrist; I always kind of wanted to follow his footsteps. When I was really young, I always said that. I don’t know, I liked psychology, you’re a specialist, it’s very low stress you’re able to talk and converge with the patients and have a relationship with them. But, you also make them feel better and I think taht would be cool. Something in medicine, I think I would enjoy. I’m fascinated by life, biology and nature - so I think maybe something like that.

What is the most thing that you like and the most thing that you don’t like about yourself?

One thing I like most, I would go with my height! I am glad that I’m 6’2”. I don’t know - I haven’t given that much thought. I’ve got nothing. I’m hard working. I think that’s a plus, I don’t think everyone is born with that, maybe they are! I don’t know. But, I think I’m hard working and I’m not really complacent all the time. One thing I dont like about myself, I’ll think of something by the end and then I’ll give you an answer.

Do you have any secret obsessions?

Any secret obsessions? Wow, that put me on the spot. Secret obsessions… I’m not really obsessed with anything I have a lot of interest. I get very excited about new things so, like I just started scuba diving. So I’ll scuba dive like twice a week for like six months and just do it all the time. Stuff like that, yeah, I guess if you call it that.

    Who is your favorite singer?

At the moment, my most favorite singer of all time, Robert Plant.

Whose performance did you enjoy the most at the VMA’s?

Well, I thought Adele was amazing. She looked at me for five seconds during her song when she sang. So, she sang five seconds of that to me. When Brian May came out that was really amazing, I was excited for that.

    Are you Glamoholic?

I need a recovery program because I’m such a Glamoholic! I need a twelve step program.
